Our Mission
To promote the development and preservation of affordable housing for all Nevadans through collaboration, education, and advocacy.
Within a 7-day period, our state and Governor announced commitments totaling more than $800 million for affordable housing in Nevada – the largest single investment in affordable housing in Nevada history. It takes more than money, but these resources are critical components to, not only a successful recovery, but a more equitable and prosperous future for so many Nevadans.
Wednesday, February 23rd, at a special State of the State, Governor Sisolak announced the new “Home Means Nevada” initiative, a $500 million commitment to lower the cost of housing, help people stay in their homes and create good-paying jobs. You can check out more details at Nevada Recovers, On the Move HERE. This is a comprehensive investment addressing affordable housing multifamily developments, preserving affordable housing, homeownership and land. Thank you! This commitment is consistent with the recommendation by the Nevada Housing Coalition that was developed with input and feedback from nearly 70 stakeholders across the state, representing nonprofit and private developers, private finance, community service providers, advocates, public agencies and local government.
Last week, on February 16, the State of Nevada announced an historic allocation in affordable housing, committing $300.7 million (87%) of Nevada’s 2021 tax-exempt bonding authority for the development of affordable housing projects across the state. This is the highest amount ever set aside for affordable housing development since the program began. Read the full Press Release HERE.
Such an exciting time for affordable housing, and this is just the beginning. Our state has made an out-loud and meaningful decision to advance affordable housing. The thousands of units we will add just from these commitments alone will increase our inventory and serve more hard-working Nevadan families, our most vulnerable Nevadans, and households across the affordable housing spectrum.
A special thanks goes out to our congressional delegates for these critical resources and for the hard work they do for all Nevadans everyday in DC.
The Nevada Housing Coalition is committed to supporting all of our partners – our state, local governments, nonprofit and private builders and developers, community service providers, and housing authorities – as we all work to move the needle on our affordable housing inventory to ensure housing options for all Nevadans.
Home Means Nevada.
Christine
