Federal Update

President Biden Signs into Law FY22 Spending Bill with Increased Funding for Housing

On March 11, President Biden signed into law the fiscal year 2022 spending bill. The bill will provide approximately $1.5 trillion in federal spending with about $53.7 billion going towards HUD programs. Funding for affordable housing and community development programs was also increased, which includes enough funding to renew all existing Housing Choice Vouchers and Project-Based Rental Assistance Vouchers. $200 million will also be extended to expand rental assistance vouchers to an additional 25,000 households.

The bill is also comprised of congressional directives to provide further information to HUD and other federal agencies to implement, track and analyze federal programs including COVID-19 relief, ERA programs, and tribal housing.
