JUNE 2022

From the Executive Director

I am inspired by you all and want to especially thank the nearly 150 attendees of our Nevada Housing Policy Forums last week in Reno and yesterday in Las Vegas. The attention and care for policy solutions from development and preservation to supportive housing to access and equity was breathtaking. We brainstormed for our housing supply shortage overall and addressed the here and now with our rising rents. The discussion was candid and we shined a light on some of the things we are doing well and some of our gaps and weaknesses, with a focus on policy solutions. Most importantly, we made new connections and re-connected with our colleagues and partners across the housing spectrum and across our state. Stay tuned for a release of our outcomes and for the legislative priorities that the NHC Board of Directors will be moving forward.

Be sure to check out our amazing education and training opportunities (featured below) as part of Elevate NV Affordable Housing, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. We have a full calendar of events for Supportive Housing. Make sure you save the date for our Conference which will have special events for all training participants and an Affordable Housing 101 Academy held the day before the conference.

Finally, I want to thank all of our members. These past few months, we have added so many new members, and our membership continues to grow! Some of our new members are familiar and some, like Dominium featured in our Member Spotlight, are new to Nevada but bring expertise and energy to advance affordable housing.

Thank you all!

Christine

Ovation Development and Coordinated Living of Southern Nevada Celebrate New Senior Affordable Housing Community

On June 9, Ovation Development, in partnership with Coordinated Living of Southern Nevada, held a Grand Opening for their newest senior affordable housing community, Arioso. The beautiful 195-unit facility is located in southwest Las Vegas and was built for low-income seniors. The cost of rent includes all utilities, and units were built to be energy efficient. The community is pet friendly and has amenities such as a fitness center, media room, salon, library, and game room. Governor Steve Sisolak joined the grand opening as part of the Home Means Nevada Initiative and noted that Ovation is setting the bar high for other developers. Two current residents of Arioso shared their testimonies on how their lives have improved since moving into the community. Congratulations, and we look forward to celebrating future developments for our Nevadans in need.
